I can tell it is summer because we have crickets in our house and they play their music all the time so we feel like we are camping. They are so kind. Yesterday I trapped one in the bathroom under a cup, all but his antennae that stuck out the side. I intended to ask Asia to take him outside for me (that is her specialty) but I forgot. In the middle of the night I got up to go to the bathroom and saw the cup there on the floor except now the cricket was escaping. I didn't know whether someone had jarred the cup or if he had super cricket strength and had lifted it to free himself. I would have caught him again, but he was too fast.
In the morning I went to the bathroom and there was the cup, with the antennae sticking out. I asked everyone if they had captured a cricket this morning, but no one fessed up. I was sure I was awake when I saw that cricket escaping, I don't generally fall asleep at the toilet, especially when the reason I was in there was due to insomnia.
Maybe... the super cricket, saw his folly and climbed back under the cup.

Perhaps you only dreamed you had insomnia and went to the bathroom, along with the escaping cricket?
funny
I wonder why there are no crickets where I live?
Excellent post. I will keep my eyes open for the super cricket.
There's a cricket living outside my bedroom window, and he sings at the top of his legs from early in the morning until long after I wish I could have slept, every day.
If the picture in this post is a photo of the actual cricket you caught, I would say he is more than just a super cricket. He appears to be quite talented and accomplished. And refined.
One of my favorite books on tape that we listened too last year as a family was the Cricket in Time Square by George Selden written in 1960's. Amazing beautiful music that cricket could play! Wow and a lovely story about a little boy and his family.
Your girls would love this book too! I have a hard time killing crickets now...but if I was a pioneer back in the day, wham I don't think I would have the same problem.
